Radiant Transformations: A Teen Bedroom Makeover

Designing spaces within a century old home has its own set of challenges. While we often have the flexibility to modify the interior to align with our vision, certain elements require a more creative approach.

In this project, we remodeled two distinct teen bedrooms, each featuring radiators that pose a unique obstacle. Despite the contrasting styles of the rooms, we approached the fixed elements with a cohesive strategy.

To integrate the radiators into the overall design, we painted them the same color as the walls which allowed them to blend into their surroundings. Instead of treating the radiators a mere functional elements to be hidden away, we transformed them into pieces of furniture. We used the platforms of the radiator to display art, plants, and curated books ensuring each item adds character without creating clutter. Unique shapes and textures like a hat or a woven rattan pot help visually balance the rigid square lines of the radiator.

With the most significant challenge addressed, our next focus was to design two rooms that truly reflect the personalities of their occupants. We believe a bedroom should be a personal sanctuary that showcases individuality. Just as no two people are alike, there’s no reason for two bedrooms in the same home to mirror each other.

In one bedroom we embraced a light costal vibe infusing the space with vibrant pops of color against a crisp white background. Conversely, the second bedroom features plaid patterns and leather accents with a deeper color palette creating a timeless style. By thoughtfully curating each space we ensure that both bedrooms served their functional purpose but also resonate with the unique identities of their inhabitants.
